What is existence?  The word exist is defined in the dictionary as, 'to have actual being; be'.  It is also defined as having life or animation; live.  The word exist has two other meanings totalling four altogether.  But you get the general idea.  Existence is a funny word because what truly exists?  Does a animate or inanimate object exist simply because we as human beings are aware of it?  Or does an animate or inanimate object exist without our knowing?

Naturally, human beings define their existence by placing names on objects they see or phenomena they witness.  Sometimes existence is defined as what the majority of people know.  For example, a lot of people around the world know who Paris Hilton is.  Very, very, little people know about who Nicholas M. Regan is.  Because a scant amount of people around the world know who I am, does that mean I don't exist?

There is one thing most if not all people can be sure of: there are six elements of our existence as human beings.  They are:  Chaos, Order, Truth, youth, deceit, and wisdom.  These six elements are all around us, everywhere we look, and in every corner of our world.  They inhabit everything we know.  For example, when a lion hunts its prey, all six elements are involved.  Chaos, the fact that the lion is hungry, order, making the kill and feeding its hunger.  It has to be young so it can be strong enough to make the kill.  It uses wisdom and cunning to outsmart its prey.  It uses deceit to catch its prey.  It knows the truth about its existence:  I am a predator, a carnivore, I must hunt and kill prey in order to keep existing.  Of course, the lion is only thinking about this instinctively.  The prey is also engulfed in the six elements.  Its chaos is the danger of the predator pursuing it.  Its order is escaping the prey, fleeing from danger.  It has to be young in order to be strong and fast enough to get away.  It uses wisdom and cunning to elude the lion.  It uses deceit to trick the predator.  It realizes its truth is to escape from the predator will allow it to continue to exist.

My philosophy about life and human existence has centered around the six elements of existence.  I realized this new foundation for my outlook on just about everything in my life only two years ago.  I now take you to another realm of human existence where these elements can be found: the military.  The military is one of humankind's biggest contradictions.  It is an entity built from order and chaos.  However, four other elements are also involved.  For instance, chaos is war, combat, or fighting.  Do I need to explain why these things are considered related to chaos?  Order is the uniformity and or conformity of the military.  Every member of the military follows codes, guidelines, and military law.  Every member of the military wears a uniform.  Cleanliness, also under the element of order, is vital and highly important in military life.  The youth element is represented by the young men and women who give their lives in defense of whatever nation they hail from.  Wisdom is represented by keen strategy, the experience and teachings shared with the young members by the older, higher ranking individuals, and ingenuity to defeat the enemy.  The truth element is represented by the practicality of the military.  Deceit is represented by the opposite, the impracticality of the military.  Deceit can also be represented by actions and strategies used to deceive the enemy and win the battle.  Deceit can also be represented by spying on the enemy from afar, undercover operations, camoflauge, and stealth vehicles such as B-2s, stealth-fighters and F-22s, along with submarines and stealth seacraft.

Ladies and gentlemen, the six elements of existence are alive and well in the military.  When soldiers go into battle, they wrestle with order and chaos, the two greatest elements of the six.  Their fight to stay alive and shoot the enemy before the enemy shoots them is survival, it is the element of order.  The fear of death and dying in battle are representations of chaos.  Godbless all of our soldiers, airman, sailors, and marines for putting themselves in harms way so that the rest of America can sleep better at night and worry about mundane issues.  Godbless them all!!
